Cuts on pointer fingers don't go well with knitting.

Cuts on pointer fingers don’t go well with knitting.

More of the second Clapotis.
I managed to gash a little whole in my finger a few days ago at work. It bled forever and ever. And then some. It also hurt. I thought all was well…at least it wasn’t on my mouse clicking hand (which is my right hand despite my being a lefty).
Later that night, I wanted to knit. Knitting with a cut on this finger isn’t fun. It’s not fun with a Band-Aid and it’s not fun without a Band-Aid. Now that several days have passed, I can knit again. Not as fast as usual but that’s better than none at all.
Other than this knitting crisis, I’m fine.
Work was kind of icky last weekend. I hope that this coming work week won’t be the same. Life is swell otherwise. I have until the end of October to move out of my apartment in Richmond…so for now I’m taking it easy and not stressing about it.

Clapotis #2 in progress

Clapotis #2 in progress.
Originally uploaded by meliass.

I cast on my second Clapotis last night and made lots of progress on it while watching 3 episodes of Deadwood. The good thing about watching Deadwood and knitting at the same time is that all of the characters have very very distinct voices so I don’t necessarily have to look at the tv all the time. I can concentrate on the knitting.

I love these colors. Love them. This one may end up being mine. Or I’ll say that until I knit the 3rd one in another Noro color and like that one more. This one is Kureyon 157. I think it’s still available and on sale at Webs.

On a Noro note, I joined Yarniverse’s Noro Kureyon Club. For $8.95 (including shipping), they’ll send a new Kureyon color every 5-6 weeks. I couldn’t resist this. I got the first one today. It was the same color that I’m knitting this Clapotis in. Even the same dye lot. It’s a good thing I really really like this color, isn’t it?

Other news: My sister/roommate has found a friend that wants to take over my part of the lease. This is wonderful. No more paying for an apartment I don’t live in…but what will I do instead? This move is to take place within a month from now. Ugh…more moving. I dread it. I don’t really have the time for it now…but I will do it. I sound like I’m not happy about it…I am. I just dread the uncertainty of what’s next. More than likely I’ll be sticking all of my stuff in storage for the time being. Until I figure out what’s next.

More soon.

I love red shoes

Thursday, 14. September 2006 3:58

I love red shoes. And I love Mary Janes. So….I must must must have these Crocs Mary Janes.

I saw them in person yesterday at some store. I’ve thought about buying Crocs for rainy/messy days for quite a while. These ones may be the breaking point.

C'est fini!

It’s done. I can’t wait to cast on another one. That will probably happen in the next couple of days.

Final (unblocked) dimensions are approximately 18 inches wide and 60 inches long. A little narrower & longer than the original pattern. I ended up using about 5 1/2 skeins of Silk Garden. I should have made it slightly narrower in the first place and I could have done it with 5. Oh well.

Buiding the Death Star

He’s had it for nearly all of 2006 but his back hasn’t felt well enough for him to play with it in many months. It really does require all those cups and Gladware containers to build it.

Today he thought I’d lost some itty bitty little pieces when I packed everything into the box ages ago. I got online and sent Lego a request for replacement parts. Then he found the pieces in a cup of odd pieces just as I said he would. :)

Anyway, he has to finish building the Death Star before he’s allowed to build anymore Lego sets.

Week Two: Clapotis Scarf

Week Two: Clapotis Scarf

My boyfriend hiding behind my scarf. He’s about 6 feet tall. That’s a big scarf. Only one more skein to add to it and that skein won’t add much in length.

The mess behind him is the Lego Death Star. Pictures of that forthcoming.

Pretty felted purse in progress

Pretty felted purse in progress

I’m using the ballband discloth pattern from Mason Dixon Knitting as a basis for mixing in the Noro Kureyon yarn. So far it looks cool…but I can’t wait to see how it will look after felting.

I just started this purse today…but had plenty of knitting time with a power outage and then 2 episodes from season one of Deadwood to watch.

I'm not allergic to margaritas.

Tuesday, 5. September 2006 6:45

I’ve been having some issues with alcohol in the past few months. Issues along the lines of getting pukey without having much to drink. I’ve thrown up after as few as 4 drinks over the course of 4+ hours. And it’s happened at least 3-4 times. I’m trying to figure out if it’s a specific kind of alcohol. I think it’s rum. Since it was suggested that it could be an allergy, I’ve had just Bud Light one night, just Framboise another and just margaritas tonight. No problems with any of them. So for now, I’m avoiding rum entirely to see if that solves the problem. It isn’t a huge loss as I don’t really like rum. Unless it’s masked by fruit juices or mixed well in a mojito. Either of those types of beverages could be made with vodka instead.

It’s officially the end of summer in Williamsburg! Why is this so exciting? The worst of the tourists are now gone for a while. They’ll be back a little at holidays but not in full force again until next summer. The fall visitors to Williamsburg are a nicer lot. I don’t know if it’s simply that they’re usually without children or if it’s a function of nicer weather. Whatever it is, I like the fall people.

The couple of days since Ernesto have given us a nice taste of the pending fall months. I’m looking forward to it. I’m completely over hot weather. I want to wear pants. Maybe even sweaters. But not socks. I never really want to wear socks.

My yearning for fall is probably a little associated with knitting. Knitting a huge scarf/shawl in August is a little silly. But it will be wonderful come November. The Clapotis scarf is nearly done. However, I can’t finish it until one more skein of yarn comes in the mail in the next couple of days. In the interim, I’ve cast on an afghan for the boyfriend as he gets chilly on the couch. It’s boring black and heather gray. I’ve also cast on one of the ballband dishcloths from the Mason Dixon Knitting book. It’s blue and brown. Colors that probably don’t appeal to everyone…but I like ‘em. I don’t even mind knitting with cotton…unlike a lot of knitters.

I’ll also cast on a new purse tomorrow afternoon while sitting at the neurosurgeon’s office with the boyfriend. He had lumbar laminectomy surgery in April and has definitely still had some pain issues. Probably nerve damage from having his spinal injury for so long. He was prescribed steroid pills (Prednisone?) for it a while ago and they helped but aren’t something that you should keep taking. So he’s getting a steroid cortisone injection in his spine tomorrow. It takes 10-14 days to work and should relieve his pain. If it doesn’t, it’s apparently not something that you get again. I’m keeping my fingers crossed. He’s still in too much pain to work and as a result, he’s so bored with being at home all the time.

What else? I’ve moved my restaurant schedule writing into the 21st century with the introduction of online schedule requests. It should make my job a lot easier. I hope.

More soon.

Is attending a wool festival really a good idea for me?

Sunday, 3. September 2006 4:56

Probably not. But there’s one near Charlottesville in early October that I’m going to try to attend. I stand corrected, it’s not a wool festival, its the Fall Fiber Festival. It still equals wool to me if I go as I’m sure that I’ll buy way more yarn than I should.

Nothing too much is going on around here. I’ve had an easy week at work that included an extra day off yesterday because of Tropical Storm Ernesto. The restaurant didn’t have power for most of yesterday so we didn’t open at all. Too bad it wasn’t an enjoyable day off due to the gloomy, heavy rain and partial lack of electricity.

My Clapotis scarf is coming along nicely. Just one more skein of yarn and it will be done. Then I will probably knit another.

I guess that’s it for the second. Just wanted to pretend that I know how to update this thing every now and again. :)
