Yowsers! I have a lot of yarn. A lot of wool yarn. There’s almost nothing acrylic in any of these containers.

Stolen from the pages of Mason-Dixon Knitting…the vine pattern is found at the bottom of the knit nightie in it. Hopefully I have enough yarn for a decent length scarf. I wil probably block this one…which will help if I run out of yarn sooner than I wish.

Loot from the Virginia Fall Fiber Festival

I only bought 5 skeins. I’m proud of myself. The mucky conditions at the festival helped. It was very very very muddy. I should’ve taken a picture of my sneakers .

For more information and better pictures of the individual yarn, click on the photo to go to my Flickr account.

These are definitely being posted to the Flickr “Yarn Porn” group.

Now I must come up with projects for each of the various yarns. The only one with a definite outcome is the bottom left…it shall be a felted purse.

Going to this festival makes me wish I lived in a large house with lots of room and a yard. If I did, I would probably start hand-dying yarn. Possibly even spinning my own yarn. As much as I love colors, I think I’d be good at it.

Make sure you use the bathroom sufficiently.

Thursday, 5. October 2006 7:18

That’s what I told Tasha & Jeremy the other night. We were discussing our plans for seeing David Sedaris speak the following evening and I mentioned that we should use the bathroom sufficiently prior to the speaking engagement. Tasha thought I meant that we should pee first so that we wouldn’t miss a word he said. I meant that we should pee first so that we wouldn’t pee ourselves while laughing at the words he said. If I hadn’t used the bathroom sufficiently, I surely would’ve lost it while laughing at his story about Christmas in Spain. This tale involved children beating something with a stick. Something with a Spanish name best translated to “shit log”. There was also chanting about the shit log.

David Sedaris was funny. I’m kind of upset with how many people I know that haven’t heard of him at all. Why not? His last couple of books are hysterical. Read them!

I’ve been busy. And exhausted as a result. I’ve barely picked up knitting needles in the last week.

Work has been long. Long and tiring. Did I mention long? I’ve been bartending while managing a tad more than I’d like…mostly because I’m kind of doing the work of two people. The problem with this is that I don’t do the work of two people well. I’m only one person. I can do one job well…but I’m not so great at doing two jobs well. Today I was a fantastic bartender but a crappy manager. I brought the dining room schedule home to write for the first time in many many months tonight. The other option was staying at work until 1 am (which I did last week while writing it) and I really didn’t feel like doing that. It’s lonely in the restaurant when I’m the only one in it.

I also spent some time packing stuff in my apartment. There’s still tons to do but I made a little progress. I also sorted through boxes of old paperwork. I now have 2 garbage bags full of papers to shred. In addition, I went through clothes and pulled out about 50 things to get rid of and/or give to the sisters. I’ve left the clothes on my bed and told them that they can’t take anything from the pile until they’re both there to go through it. It seems that there are a couple of things in that pile of clothes that they both want. I wish I had a clothes horse big sister to give me clothes every time she moved. They’re lucky.

While in the apartment, I packed up a gift that I should have gifted about 2 years ago. Tasha made a child’s tea set for the infant daughter of a friend and I never got around to delivering it. It’s now been shipped and the recipient is probably almost old enough to play with it.

I suppose I’ve written enough for now.
