It was cold yesterday…

Wednesday, 31. January 2007 5:50

…So I knit myself a hat. I used some of the Noro Kureyon I’ve had in my stash for a while. It’s 2 strands held together for a thick & warm hat! It was cold enough again today that I wore it out to lunch and a movie.

I had a whole bunch of stuff I wanted to blog about but I can’t remember any of it right now. Oh well.

Oh, one thing was about the Green Gable sweater. I bought the Wicked sweater pattern as well…I’ll probably knit it first as I do like it better. I will skip the pocket on it so that it’s nice enough to wear to work. I’ve got a few skeins of yarn ordered from Knit Picks and Webs to test swatches and to see which color I like the most. Stay posted. I think I’ll also knit Wicked first as it uses less different needle sizes that I don’t already own. Hopefully the yarns will arrive this week.

I’m getting better at using my camera. It helps that I now how to focus it before taking the picture. I also figured out how to turn the macro setting on and off. You’d think I’d have learned this by now since I’ve had the camera since May.

Red or green Gable?

Saturday, 27. January 2007 5:05

I’ve purchased the Green Gable sweater pattern from Zephyr Style.

Now I have to choose a yarn color. I’m knitting it in the pattern prescribed Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece.

Jungle Green or Candy Apple? HELP!! Which to choose? Really. Which one?

After selecting the yarn, I’ll need to buy and/or find the appropriate needles. It’s worth the cost since I’m finally willing to tackle the task of knitting a sweater. Even if it is a short sleeve sweater that requires “little to no seaming” (or so the Zephyr Style website states).

I feel brave for even thinking about attempting this project.

Let’s see how long it takes for me to successfully complete it.

Hanging with the boys at the Yorktown Pub
Originally uploaded by meliass.

I recently pulled a few pictures from other people’s websites…this was one of them. There were many more pictures taken during this trip to the Yorktown Pub but this is the only one I ever saw. The photographer never published the rest of the pictures online…which is a real shame as it was me & 8 boys…imagine the silliness. I was obviously having a good time.

Anyway, I have no excuses for not posting and/or writing emails. I did close the restaurant for seven nights in a row…but that’s not an excuse. If it’s any consolation, I haven’t been knitting either. I have done a little reading…for the first time in many many months.

I’m waiting to see how work goes with the loss of one of the managers for a while. It should be fine…we kind of had an extra one since the outside restaurant closed. Now we don’t have an extra one. I’ll actually feel useful at work again.

I’m also planning on a week of vacation at the end of February. I’m not doing anything too exciting. I think we’re going to spend a couple of nights in Philadelphia as I want to see the King Tut exhibit. I think we’ll spend a night in Baltimore as well because Patrick’s never been to the National Aquarium. I haven’t been in easily a dozen years…I feel like I went sometime during college but I might be imagining that. This will be the first trip to anywhere that I’ve taken since January 2004 when I went to Hawaii. I should take a real vacation but I don’t feel like planning that much.

I’ve taken over Patrick’s XM radio as he never uses it and it’s paid for through August. I like it. Even with my mp3 player and the 6000+ songs on it, I tend to listen to the same playlist over and over again. XM will force me to listen to a little broader range of music. I’ve also started listening to XM online at home. Also cool.

This might be vain of me…but I have great hair!

Me…probably erasing knitting pictures from my camera.
Originally uploaded by meliass.

It isn’t so much vain of me as it is good that I love my hair despite the constant teasing I got in my youth.

Isn’t this a nice picture? I like pictures of people that aren’t posed. This one obviously isn’t as I think I was actually taking a picture of someone across the table.

This photo is also from the annual employee party at work. This year’s shindig was probably more fun than most. This may be in large part due to the fact that I wasn’t totally drunk. Watching drunk people is way more fun than being drunk yourself. Everyone that was sober or kind of sober at this party agreed as the intoxicated people made utter fools of themselves.

Anyway, I’m busy right now. By the time I have a day off on Wednesday, I’ll have closed the restaurant seven nights in a row. Whew…I’m tired just thinking about it. We suddenly lost a manager this week and another one’s father passed away the same night. I’m the lucky one that gets to be in charge every night…

I shouldn’t complain too much…at least I’ll get plenty of sleep every night since I don’t have to be at work until about 2:30 every day.

That’s about all I’ve got for now. No knitting pictures to bore you with today. Just my pretty hair. :)

Lots of stories that can't be told…

Jules is really a little too friendly lately…

The party was fun. Full of debauchery. But I was not part of this debauchery. I just sat back, sipped on some wine and took it all in…there was so much going on that I hardly had time to drink.

There are many stories that I can’t tell and they don’t involve me. Too many stories.

DVRs & Addi Turbos…but no fries!

Monday, 15. January 2007 6:43

I’ve figured out an odd way to log into blogger while using Netscape. If I leave a comment on someone else’s blog, the new blogger logs me in and functions fine for posting. So here I am posting a message without having to post a picture with it.

I love my new Addi Turbo needles…I haven’t knit more than a sample with the little 12″ pair yet but I will soon…I’m thinking small pouches for felting projects. I also like the feel of them enough that I ordered a pair of 16″ circulars in size 10 for my felted bag knitting. They really do knit faster and the joins are fantastic…my Clover bamboos do tend to grab a little at the joins and it is a little annoying.

So after having to work last Tuesday and miss a new episode of House, we now have a DVR cable box. Pretty much the same thing as a Tivo. It’s cool and supposedly costs no more than a regular digital box. All because I had to work…but I didn’t even miss the episode of House as Patrick’s dad taped it for me. His parents did get me hooked on the show so it’s only fair that they keep me up to date. :)

Anyway, I spent a good half hour yesterday programming things to record. Things like America’s Test Kitchen on PBS and some DIY network shows that I’ve meant to watch but didn’t ever bother to find…or they’re on at silly times. I recorded Knitty Gritty today and rather enjoyed it. Patrick laughed when I said I was going to record a knitting show…he assumed it would be a fuddy-duddy old lady show. It is decidedly not that. I’m also pondering taping all episodes of South Park…there are a lot of episodes I’ve not seen. And movies. Can’t forget the movies. There are tons I’d like to see but never catch at the right time. The DVR could be great for my knitting output as I may be sitting in front of the tv all the time.

I did get a little scared when we got it…I know that Tivo will record things it thinks you’d like to watch. I don’t think this DVR does that and I was afraid it was going to think I wanted to watch Rachel Ray. *shudder* Eww.

Webs has Araucania Magallanes on sale for half off. I want some. It’s a great deal for the yardage. I’ll resist for tonight. Maybe tomorrow. I’m thinking colors 312 & 315 based on pictures posted on other websites.

I’m on an itty-bitty kick to eat/drink a little healthier. In the last week, I’ve cut out fries and sodas from work. Fries are easy…I’ve only had one single fry since last Monday. Today I had a burger for lunch and I ordered it without fries. They gave me asparagus instead…which was fine by me. The soda isn’t as easy…working in a restaurant is hard for soda curbing as it’s as easy to get a Pepsi as it is a water. I don’t like diet sodas so that wouldn’t help. My resolution is to only get water from the tap…not water from the soda gun thus resisting my temptation to have Pepsi. I’ll still drink my morning/afternoon Dr. Pepper. It’s my form of coffee lately…I bring one to work every day and drink it when I get there. And now I’ll switch to water all day after that.

I’ve babbled on and on and on enough for tonight.

Expect some sort of entertaining photo soon…tomorrow is our annual employee party/dinner. We’re expecting quite a show. It’s all 3 of our restaurants together for the first time ever. And there will be a lot of drinking. Not on my part though…I’ve volunteered to be a designated driver. I can be such a grown up sometimes.

The boyfriend's new hat…worn by me

The boyfriend’s new hat…worn by me
Originally uploaded by meliass.

The boyfriend wanted a hat. So I made one. He chose the yarn and colorway himself. I’d choose brighter colors but he always chooses something close to black. Oh well.

This is knit with a double strand of Noro Silk Garden 47 – I used just shy of 2 skeins and knit the whole thing on size 9 16″ circular needles.

I now know that Patrick & I have nearly the same size head…which will be easy if I ever want to make a secret hat for him. I have a big noggin.
