The Boastful Baker

because every cook praises her own broth

About Me

My name is Melissa and I like food. A lot. I like to spend most of my nights and weekends eating food, cooking food, baking food, talking about food and reading about food. I even like to spend my work hours dealing with food.

Since college, nearly all of my jobs have revolved around food, starting with a part time job at a candy and gourmet shop in Williamsburg, Virginia. After that, I moved on to a local seafood restaurant. I stayed there for a number of years, working as a server, bartender and manager.

A few years ago, I left the restaurant business for a job with regular daytime hours and weekends off. However, I did not leave the food industry entirely. I now work for La Tienda, a Spanish food, wine and housewares retailer. Primarily an online business, La Tienda is based just outside of Williamsburg.

I got married in early 2011 and just a couple of months ago, my husband and I relocated to Charlottesville, Virginia – just a 2 hour drive from our old home in Williamsburg. I was fortunate enough to be able to keep my job in the marketing department at La Tienda despite the move and I now work remotely from my new home in Charlottesville.

I love being able to spend my work days thinking about food and at this point, I cannot imagine working outside of the food industry. In the way long term, I’d love to open a bakery or a restaurant of my own, but in the meantime I’ll just keep cooking and perfecting recipes for use in the distant future.

  1. Hi there –

I am getting in touch with you to invite you to check out our new food photo submission site, called DessertStalking.com . DessertStalking has been in operation for only a couple weeks, but it is growing fast, with more bloggers registering to make submissions every day. In addition, contributors are beginning to notice an increase in the number of visitors to their blogs. That means more new friends, and if you run ads, increased revenue, as well as the chance to further spread your particular point of view when it comes to making great food.

DessertStalking is dedicated to the sweeter side of life – all sorts of desserts, treats, snacks and breakfast foods are welcome, as well as yeast and quick breads. I noticed that when I submitted dessert photos to the other submission sites, I got 3 or 4 times the hits as I did for savory submissions. People love desserts, and they love looking at great photos of the work of people who are creative in the kitchen, so why not a site that concentrates on goodies?

I hope that you will stop by, take a moment to register and give us a try. Two things we ask: just one submission per post please, and only one submission every twenty four hours. Every accepted submission gets a tweet [follow us on Twitter: http://twitter.com/DessertStalking ], and if for some reason, your photo is not accepted, we will drop you a line to let you know why. Our submission guidelines are available on the site, along with answers to frequently asked questions. We try to get back to you as soon as possible, so don’t hesitate to send us an email if you have any questions. Hope to see you there soon!

  3. Hi,

I’d like to inquire about doing a sponsored blog post – about 150-300 words that talks a little bit about fashion and links back to our site http://swaychic.com. We sell womens casual clothing in Berkeley and Los Angeles, Califonia and are looking for more exposure on http://www.boastfulbaker.com

Here’s a list of some blog post titles we’ve done in the past:
    - What is Indie fashion?
    - The Latest Styles In Vegan Purses
    - Cute Indie Dress Styles For the Perfect Occassion
Our budget is around $15 for the post. Is this something you’d be open to?

Also we might be interested in a small banner ad if the price is right. Our budget is $40/year – something like this:

Let me know if you’d be open to either or both of these.

Also if you have some other sites just send them over and we might be interested in doing a sponsored post on there as well!

    Regards,

    Jeff

    • Thanks for the interest in my blog, but I’m really not interested in a sponsored blog post about fashion as my website is primarily about food.
